چکیده

PROVIDENCE – A researcher at the Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) at Rhode Island, The Miriam and Newport hospitals has found that a simple blood test can predict a person’s risk for sudden cardiac death, enabling physicians to more quickly and accurately assess a patient’s need for an implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD). That paper by SAMUEL C. DUDLEY, MD, PhD, chief of cardiology at the CVI, is published online in advance of print in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. “This is the first test of its kind; never before have clinicians been able to accurately assess a patient’s risk of sudden cardiac death by performing a blood test,” Dr. Dudley said. “The primary prevention model for at-risk patients in the U.S. is to implant an ICD before a cardiac event happens. While it’s better to be safe, this has led to widespread overuse of ICDs throughout the U.S. and abroad.” Dr. Dudley continued, “With this blood test, we can refine the need for such a device, and instead implant the cardiac defibrillators only in the most severe cases of sudden cardiac death risk.” The new blood test is in a pilot phase in a large, multisite trial led by Dr. Dudley and other researchers at Lifespan’s CVI anticipated to start this fall. v

Apical Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy in a Case with Chest Pain and Family History of Sudden Cardiac Death: A Case Report

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common genetic cardiovascular disease, which is caused by a multitude of mutations in genes encoding proteins of the cardiac sarcomere (1). Apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (AHCM) is an uncommon type of HCM. The sudden cardiac death is less likely to occur in the patients inflicted with AHCM (2). Herein, we presented the case of a 29-year-old man ...

The effect of eight weeks of cardiac rehabilitation on hemodynamic parameters and blood lipid profile in male patients 55-70 years old CABG coronary artery bypass graft surgery

Extended Abstract 1.Introduction According to the World Health Organization (2010), cardiovascular disease (CHD) is the most common cause of death worldwide (1). Sadeghpour et al. (2010) have shown that one of the most common problems after coronary artery bypass grafting is extensive hemodynamic changes. Incomplete drainage of blood and blood fluid from the pericardium and pleura reduces hea...

Evaluation of the Relationship between Hematological Indices and Cardiovascular Events in Isfahan Cohort Study

Background and Objective: Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in developing countries. Inflammation significantly contributes to the process of atherosclerosis. Therefore, evaluating White Blood Cells (WBC) and platelet counts as markers of inflammatory as well as hematocrit as a marker of blood viscosity may predict coronary events. The present study aimed to evaluate th...

Soluble P-selectin levels are associated with cardiovascular mortality and sudden cardiac death in male dialysis patients.

BACKGROUND/AIMS P-selectin is released by activated platelets and endothelium contributing to inflammation and thrombosis. We evaluated the association between soluble P-selectin and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in dialysis patients. METHODS We measured soluble P-selectin in serum from 824 incident dialysis patients. Using Cox proportional hazards models, we modeled the asso...
